HPLC stands for High Pressure Liquid Chromatography.

 Schematic representation HPLC

In an HPLC system, liquid chromatography is performed. The eluent is pumped under high pressure through a highly packed column.

Through high pressure and good contact with the stationary phase, a relatively high separation rate and very good resolution is achieved.

There are several manufacturers around the world who make HPLC systems, such as:  Waters, Agilent and Shimadzu.
